Hot Water & Heating from Photovoltaics

Renewable Energy revolution needs a high proportion of solar and wind energy in electricity grids. With further expansion of volatile sources more power fluctuations need to be compensated. Decentralized demand side management of electrical loads, also for heat, is becoming important. Currently, battery systems are the talk of the town, 5 kWh capacity is typical for a domestic storage battery. In home buildings, however, there are significantly larger capacities available. 15 kWh can be stored in a 300 liter hot water boiler. 120 square meters concrete-floor provide capacity for another 25 kWh for space-heating. Both together provide the eightfold storage capacity of a battery. And this is urgently needed for the transition to renewable energies.

In modern buildings with low heating demand, the energy consumption for space heating is no longer the dominant component. Due to the high insulation standard of new or renovated single-family homes, space heating energy is now equal to the demand of electric loads and water heating.

For these buildings, conventional heat generators equipped with water pipes are oversized. High cost of material and time for installation is no longer justified. Our latest product, the AC•THOR, includes the entire electrical heating control of a building in a single, compact unit.

Autonomous hot-water with photovoltaics: the patented ELWA

Hot-water with photovoltaics is a new technology. It was possible because of the enourmous decline in prices of PV-modules. We have recognized this trend early and patented the idea. In contrast to conventional solar-heat-systems there is no closed loop with liquid, but cables that carry the energy from the modules to the boiler.There is the ELWA, our invention. It is mounted in the boiler and heats up the water. There is no need for pipings and pumps. Problems with frost and steaming collectors are now things of the past. It is much more simple and cost efficient.
